Structural Glass Construction
This garden glass extension in Fulham is an example of a townhouse with such a tiny garden that it seemed impossible to build an extension to it.
This Glass Wrap-around extension has minimum impact on its tiny garden, rather it allows the garden space to extend into the house by using frameless unsupported structural glass. Built in 2001 it was one of the first such installations.
The rain trickles prettily over the surface, then over the edge of the roof glass and down the inside of the perspex downpipe, and the sun refracts through the edge of the roof panels into a ring of spectra on the garden paving.
New glass types, external shading and thermostatically sensitive vents can be installed to modify the heat gain in summer.
